User guide

Short user guide about using my FLAC encoder. It details the different available settings which can be used.

The CD Ripping engine

Before going in details with the FLAC encoder, I’d like to make sure you get the right resources to learn how to rip a CD with Winamp. Below are shortcuts to the official manual (don’t worry, these are not 200 pages chapters):
- Ripping CD Tracks to Your PC
- General Preferences: CD Ripping

FLAC encoder options

The FLAC encoder was designed to be the easiest possible to use. As a result, there is a single option called the “compression level”.

This compression level goes from 0 to 8, with for default 5. This compression level defines how much compressed (=small) will be the resulting files.

Notice that because FLAC files are lossless, this actually means that the compression level will have no influence on the obtained audio quality. Setting a higher compression level will only mean smaller files but longer encoding time.

If you know the official command-line encoder presets, flac.exe, you’ll be happy to learn that my encoder uses exactly the same!

Stay tuned!
